“I Was A Turkish Boy Who Was Running After The Soccer Ball With The Fenerbahce Shirt With OKOCHA Name At The Back” – Ozil

Ozil writes on his page as he enjoys his stay at FENERBAHCE.

About 20-25 years ago, I was an immigrant Turkish boy who was running after the soccer ball with the Fenerbahce shirt with Jay-Jay Okocha written on his back in the streets of Gelsenkirchen about 20-25 years ago.

I mutually agreed and terminated my contract with the Arsenal team and signed a 3.5-year contract with Fenerbahçe, which I have been a strong fan of since my childhood.

Now is the time for me to make a new start with Fenerbahçe, the team of my childhood, in the extraordinary city of Istanbul, which Napoleon Bonaparte said if the world were a country, its capital would be this city.

I would like to express my gratitude to our president, Mr. Ali Koç and the Board of Directors, to our Sportive Director Emre Belözoğlu, and to our teacher Erol Bulut for their trust in me, which led to this new beginning in my career and life.

In addition, since the day we met, my brother, Acun Ilıcalı, who has always been with me in my good days and bad days and has worked hard to make this transfer, Rıdvan Dilmen, my teacher, my brother Mutlu Özil and my manager.

I would like to express my endless thanks to Erkut Söğüt and the whole Family & Football team and most importantly to my only mother Gülizar Özil, who has the biggest share in my coming to this day, and who worked day and night for us in our childhood, my dear wife Amine and my dear daughter Eda.

Finally, I would like to thank the great Fenerbahçe fans who have made me feel their great and incredible support every second that will surprise me like everyone else since the moment I got on the plane from London.

And I promise I will struggle until the last drop of my term in order to reward this support and belief and not to embarrass you. I hope happy days altogether.
