No More Salaries To Defaulting Civil Servants – Jigawa State Government Blows Hot

Jigawa State Government has warned that there would be no more payment of salaries to any defaulting civil servant in the State.

This was stated by the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Alh. Uba Bala Ringim (DIG rtd) while briefing newsmen on the Commission’s performance in the previous year.

He explained that the decision followed the Governor’s directives in order to sanitize and reduce redundancy among the staff of local governments across the State.

Ringim said the Government observed with dismay the activities of some local government staff who abscond from their work post for many days without any concrete reason.

“Some civil servants are staying in Lagos, Abuja and other States and only come to work once or twice in a month.

“Therefore, Government will not tolerate any act of abscondment from work without any concrete reason,”

Ringim stated.

He said the State Government had been working to protect the rights and welfare of all civil servants, including, prompt payment of salaries, promotion and training of staff and payment of retirement and other benefits.

The chairman noted that the commission had provided the local governments with attendance register in all the seven departments of each of the 27 local government areas.

He noted that the register will be considered for the payment of monthly salaries, promotions and other entitlements.

“Each civil servant must have at least 70% attendance before he will be considered for the monthly salary payment,”

He said.
